A club named for the ’20s is embracing the ’80s.
“The 80’s Revue” is coming to 1923 Prohibition Bar at the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian. The retro-pop experience opens 8:15 p.m. Aug. 6, following Aug. 13, with plans to run in residency thereafter (tickets start at $15 for GA, $40 for VIP seating; go to 1923lv.com for intel).
The show is from Kevin Sucher and Sucher Entertainment. Sucher also created and pilots The Docksiders at 1923, which is the lone yacht rock-themed residency on the Strip. Sucher has an aquatic empire with this act, which also plays select dates at the South Point Showroom. The band returns to the Port of Gaughan from Sept. 18-20.
“The 80’s Revue” is similar to The Docksiders as it seizes a specific flavor of nostalgia. Sucher is a disciple of the ‘80s pop-New Wave movement. Expect the finer moments of such Max Headroom-era hitmakers as Tears For Fears, Duran Duran, Madonna, Erasure, OMD, Peter Gabriel, Prince and Eurythmics.
Versatile vocalists Brandon Albright (“Rock of Ages” at The Venetian) and Paige Strafella (“The King Comes Home” at Westgate and ’90s Station at Station Casinos and Fremont Street) head up the new act. Docksiders musicians Theo Mayweather (keys), David Davis (guitar) and Chris Kollman (drums) fill out the band.
A good friend of pop legend Tony Orlando, Sucher has built a career as a producer, performer and tour manager dates more than three decades. He has been nominated for three Grammys for his studio expertise. His list of clients is eye-popping: Eric Benet, The Tenors, Najee, Train, Michelle Branch, Sheryl Crow, David Foster, LeAnn Rimes, Gloria Estefan, Diane Warren, Gwen Stefani, The Gufs, Toni Braxton and Olivia Newton-John, among others.
Also highlighted on the official Sucher bio: As president and CEO of Truth Records, he was an uncredited executive producer of the three-time, Oscar-winning film “Dallas Buyers Club,” helping raise $5 million in financing for the project.
Sucher built The Docksiders in his hometown of Milwaukee in 2018. He moved the act to Las Vegas in September 2022, headlining first at the Rio, and then for several limited runs until signing with 1923 founder Noel Bowman in the summer of 2024.
More recently, Sucher is the focus of an upcoming episode of the “Unbreakable” docuseries on Amazon Prime Video. His path to Las Vegas is laid out, including how he’s been buoyed by yacht rock and the best of the ’80s.
“I’ve built my career producing world-class live entertainment,” Sucher said. “Now I’m putting that same precision behind the decade that made me fall in love with the stage in the first place.”
Cool Hang Alert
Sticking with 1923 Prohibition, “Nola Nights” is the quasi-secret, secluded, muted, speakeasy hang after The Docksiders from 9:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Burlesque performers grace the room. Wes Meadows the wonderful vocalist/pianist/songwriter, furnishes the music. Impress your friends (especially those of combat sports) by knowing Meadows is the son of boxing broadcast great Al Bernstein. No cover. Go to 1923lv.com for intel.
