A 42-year-old man arrested after allegedly driving toward two police officers in Honolulu on Friday has been charged with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and resisting an order to stop, after prosecutors declined to pursue the original attempted murder allegation.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, investigators conferred with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney on Sunday, and the case was reclassified.
The suspect was charged with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and one count of resisting an order to stop. Bail was set at $50,000.
Police said the incident occurred at about 6 p.m. Friday, when District 5 Crime Reduction Unit officers saw the man working on a vehicle that was partially blocking the roadway.
As officers approached to investigate, the man allegedly entered the vehicle and drove directly toward one officer, forcing the officer to move out of the way to avoid being struck. Police said the suspect then reversed toward a second officer, who also had to move to avoid being hit. During the incident, the vehicle also struck an unmarked police vehicle.
No officers were injured.
