Las Vegas pizza legend John Arena, who has been building and firing pies here for going on 50 years, along the way becoming a global evangelist for the art, craft and importance of pizza, has quietly launched Metro Sliceteria, a slice shop, in The Bend development in the southwest valley.
His latest project, Arena said, aligns with an increasingly important wedge of the pizza trade, a worldwide movement toward “destination slice shops that are focused on high quality and variety,” with “slices that are worth traveling for. This has changed the way we think about that segment of the industry and created a new showcase for creativity.”
Metro Sliceteria, 8720 W. Sunset Road, Suite D-150, belongs to the Metro Pizza family, which has stand-alone stores in Centennial Hills and Henderson and outlets in Ellis Island casino and on Concourse D at Harry Reid International Airport.

The opening of Metro Sliceteria, which also sells whole pies, follows the closing late in late 2025 of Metro Pizza on East Tropicana Avenue after 37 years, in preparation for the debut of the slice shop. The Metro Pizza on South Decatur Boulevard closed July 11.
Arena and Vincent Rotolo of Good Pie are among the founders of the Las Vegas Pizza Alliance, which connects Vegas pizza makers, promotes the city’s pizza scene and joins with distributor Greco & Sons to present the annual AYCE Las Vegas Pizza Festival. Arena is also a co-founder of Truly Pizza in Dana Point and Laguna Beach, California.
