One would be forgiven for thinking the somewhat dystopian and diabolical themes of the Melanie Martinez’s new album Hades album, might make for a rough go live, but quite the opposite went down at the Kia Center Thursday.
Martinez and her phalanx of dancers and musicians were joyous and stunned the assembled faithful with bold imagery, staging, costumes and breathtaking choreography.
The show’s production shifted from huge and futuristic to suddenly very intimate when Martinez too to a small circular stage in the middle of the arena, pulled a lucky fan on stage and sang “Avoidant” directly to him, as the entire arena waved their phone flashlights and also sang along.
Her passionate fans understood the assignment as well, many paying homage to the various personalities and looks of Martinez’s career. Here’s a look at the electricity both on and offstage.
