Anne (Crosby) Nichols
BATH – Anne Crosby Nichols, also known as “Anne Luv” or “Mémé”, died July 23, 2026, at the age of 95. Anne was a resident of Bath, spending her last years at the HillHouse Assisted Living facility in Bath.
She was born on March 28, 1931, in Minneapolis, Minn. to Esther Vinton Crosby (née Washburn) and Albert Hastings Crosby.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four siblings, Albert, Charlie, Esther, and John; husband, Herman A. Nichols, Jr.; and grandson, Christopher Nichols.
Anne graduated from Miss Hall’s School and Bennington College, where she majored in Art History. Upon graduation, Anne studied in Europe with her best friend, Lorraine Nichols Higbie. It was through that friendship that she met her future husband.
Anne’s love of travel took her on many adventures throughout the world, including an extended stay in Puerto Rico, where she lived for 12 years and raised her family.
Anne was an incredible athlete, excelling in horseback riding, skiing, tennis, and ping pong. She was fiercely competitive, and took no mercy on her opponents, even her grandchildren.
Anne was a gracious hostess, welcoming friends, family, and even strangers into her home. Her famous spinach casserole was a favorite of many a guest (little did they know it was Stouffers with a little bit of love added).
She will be remembered for her kind heart, her desire to make others feel seen, her stylish hats, fast driving, slow eating, and her disposable cameras. She loved to take pictures of people at every gathering, frequently saying “just one more” after the tenth photo. The joke was that the developed pictures never were seen.
She is survived by her children, H.A. “Nick” Nichols, III (Kim), Anita N. Staeheli (Christopher); four grandchildren, Jamie Nichols (Ruby), Ben Nichols (Kayleen), Ian Staeheli (Hailey) and Laura Staeheli (Jason); and three great-grandchildren, Sona Nichols, Lina Nichols, and Finnley Christopher Nichols.
We would like to thank the staff at HillHouse Assisted Living for their care of Anne. Everyone—from the kitchen staff, housekeeping, nursing staff, and administrators—treated her with kindness and compassion. We are forever grateful.
Plans for a private service will be announced at a later date.
