Police arrested a 34-year-old man late Friday night after he allegedly assaulted and choked a 73-year-old man in Waianae, Honolulu police said.
Police said the assault happened at 9:30 p.m. Officers found the suspect at the scene, and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree assault of an “elder,” which is anyone 60 years or older, and felony abuse strangulation, according to the Honolulu Police Department. The legal term “strangulation” refers to external pressure blocking an airway, but does not require death or visible marks for a conviction.
The suspect was arrested at 11:20 p.m. and remained in custody today pending investigation.
