Hawaii island firefighters this afternoon are battling two South Kohala wildfires, which have closed a portion of Daniel K. Inouye Highway
The fires are near mile markers 46 and 47 of the highway, also known as Saddle Road.
Hawaii Department of Transportation officials said the highway is closed in both directions between the Old Saddle Road and Highway 190 junctions for at least the next four hours. Motorists should avoid the area.
Traffic is being re-routed through Old Saddle Road.
