8 great deals you can get with Bicycle Benefits

With the purchase of a $5 Bicycle Benefits sticker, you can unlock a host of discounts and deals in Greater Portland.

Just ride your bike to one of the listed establishments, present your sticker-decorated helmet to the cashier and enjoy your bounty. You can purchase these stickers at most participating businesses around the city.

Since owning my bike, I have gone on my own Tour de Bike Benefits, stopping at Hi-Fidelity for a half-priced beer before whizzing across town for a free ice cream cone at Twin Swirls Ice Cream.

You can buy a Bicycle Benefits sticker at several stores, cafes, bike shops and attractions around Greater Portland. Check bicyclebenefits.org for places to buy stickers and get deals.

There are a dozen great benefits, from bicycle repairs to snacks to physical therapy. Here are some of my favorites:

Devour a free small cone or dish of their chocolate, vanilla or twist soft serve if you bike there. It’s especially satisfying in the summer, and an easy ride if you stick to neighborhood side streets.

194 Park Ave., Portland; 7 Exchange St., Portland

Enjoy a free donut with any purchase. I’m known to buy a black coffee and drink it along with one of their signature potato donuts. (The blueberry glazed is my favorite).

Get half off your first pour. And they have comfortable seating options and regularly scheduled events, like open mic nights on Mondays.

23 Monument Square, Portland

Who doesn’t love free coffee? Savor free drip coffee if you bring your own mug to this cafe in the heart of downtown. It’s right across the street from the library, so you can grab a book and read, too.

51 York St, Portland; 400 Expedition Drive, Scarborough; 869 Main St., Westbrook; 240 U.S. 1, Falmouth

With the purchase of any small pizza, receive a free soft drink and free cookie. A soda and a cookie!

135 Washington Ave., Portland

Get half off your first pour. It was my first time trying flavored kombucha, which tasted like juice for adults. The raspberry one was particularly delicious.

416 Preble St., South Portland

Buy one cookie, get one free. Their chocolate chip cookies are delicious.

290 Congress St., Portland

Get a free apple, banana and avocado with any purchase. Sometimes, a little pick-me-up snack is all you need when you’re out and about on an adventure.
