Rangoli Indian restaurant in Las Vegas takes its name from an Indian art form in which people form decorative patterns on tables and floors using colored sands, powders, minerals and other materials. Rangoli just opened in the East Tropicana Avenue space occupied for almost four decades by the legendary Metro Pizza, co-founded by John Arena and his cousin, Sam Facchini.
Rangoli, 1395 E. Tropicana Ave., announced its Aug. 21 opening on Instagram. “After much preparation and anticipation, we are glad to share that we will be opening our doors starting this Friday, August 21st! We are excited to serve the amazing Vegas community,” the post reads.
On the menu
In a statement for Neon, a representative for Rangoli said the restaurant was in its soft opening phase and would serve a limited menu for a few weeks. A signature pairing, the representative continued, was benne dosa with filter coffee.
The Karnataka-style benne dosa, from the state in southwest India, feature a soft interior texture and are served with sambar lentil stew and chutneys. Filter coffee, reflecting the long history of coffee cultivation in the region, is made by brewing finely ground coffee powder in a two-chambered filter.
The opening menu also features dishes such as keerai vada crisp lentil patties, jackfruit biryani, okra curry from south India, malai kofta vegetable dumplings from north India, and classic gulab jamun milk-solid dumplings for dessert.
