Maine meteorologist explains what set off his viral on-air laughing fit

A prank… gone wrong.

Maine meteorologist Patrick Osborn’s phone has been “blowing up a little bit” after his epic on-air laughing fit during a Sunday segment got posted to TikTok and spread like wildfire from there.

Osborn attempted to fight through his hysterics on the Bangor station WABI TV5, in hindsight probably making the moment even more memorable.

“That’s definitely the hardest I’ve heard you laugh. In fact, that’s the hardest that I’ve heard really anyone laugh, in a very long time,” his colleague, Brian Sullivan, told him in a Monday post-mortem.

As for what set him off? Well, it’s a little complicated. Osborn and a producer were attempting to prank the anchor during a commercial break by playing the “wa wa wa” sound from Charlie Brown, as he was “yapping away.” But the YouTube video Osborn pulled up to play the sound was much longer, and the “wa wa wa” played periodically during his segment. It was the second time that got him.

“And the rest is history as they say,” Osborn told Sullivan Monday.
