A man died unexpectedly after falling onto the electrified third rail at the Forest Hills MBTA station on Saturday afternoon.

At about 1 p.m., the 19-year-old victim entered the station with a woman, MBTA Transit Police told NBC10 Boston. Saturday was Boston’s Caribbean carnival, and both of them were carrying flags representing Caribbean countries.

The woman lost her balance and fell backward off the platform, according to NBC10. The man tried to help her, but he fell with her and landed on the electrified third rail.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene, and the woman was taken to the hospital. The incident remains under investigation, but foul play is not suspected, NBC10 reported.

“This appears to be a horrific tragedy and on behalf of the Transit Police Department and the entire MBTA organization we express our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family and friends,” transit police said in a statement.
