Lionel Richie’s dates on the Strip are holding up amid his latest health issues.
The “Hello” superstar was admitted into an intensive care unit after his show at The Muny in St. Louis. The 77-year-old hitmaker needed to sit for “All Night Long,” his closing number, and after the show checked himself in for testing. Reportedly he has been treated for mild dehydration.
Richie’s shows at Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas remain unaffected and on the books. He is set to return to his “King of Hearts” production to the venue Oct. 14, 16 and 17 and Nov. 11, 13 and 14.
A rep for AEG Presents, which books Encore Theater, said the company had no comment on Richie’s status other than his shows are still scheduled. His return was announced last week.
The Montgomery Observer, near Richie’s hometown of Tuskegee, Alabama, said the “American Idol” judge sought medical attention “out of an abundance of caution.”
This is the Richie’s second medical episode this summer. In June, he stopped his show at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, during his tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. He paused for a seat onstage as he sang “Dancing on the Ceiling,” and said to the crowd, “When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your a – – down.”
Richie played “Three Times a Lady” at the piano, then cut the show short after an unplanned intermission. He went on to postpone shows in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, on doctor’s orders to rest and recover. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer returned June 30 in Pittsburgh.
