HFD carries injured hiker down Lanikai Pillbox Trail

Honolulu firefighters on Tuesday afternoon rescued a woman in her 20s from the popular Lanikai Pillbox Trail.

The 911 call came in at about 2 p.m. for a hiker with an ankle injury on the trial. Five units with 15 personnel responded, and proceeded up the short, but steep trail by foot.

Firefighters reached the hiker — reported to be a visitor form out-of-state — by 2:21 p.m. and performed a medical assessment and basic life support.

HFD crews then hiked the patient down the trail using a “Stokes litter,” or rescue stretcher and one wheel rather than airlifting her by helicopter.

Care of the patient was transferred to Honolulu Emergency Medical services at about 3 p.m.

No other injuries were reported. No further details were available.
