Honolulu firefighters rescued two people trapped in a tent while putting out a small fire in Nanakuli overnight.
The Honolulu Fire Department received a 911 call just before 2 a.m. for a rubbish fire on Farrington Highway in Nanakuli. Two units with five personnel responded.
Upon arrival, they found a small rubbish fire involving a tent and initiated an offensive water attack. Upon discovering two occupants inside the tent, firefighters called for more personnel.
They were able to extricate the two occupants – a man estimated to be in his 40s and woman estimated to be in her 50s – from the tent.
HFD said the fire was extinguished at 2:45 a.m.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene near “Black Rocks Beach” and treated the two patients for burns.

The woman suffered severe burns to the majority of her body, in addition to multiple minor burns, according to EMS. The man suffered serious burns to his feet, and minor burns to other parts of his body.
Paramedics provided both patients with advanced life support. The woman was taken to the emergency room in critical condition, while the man was taken in serious condition.
