Maine people deserve accountability from MaineCare for its expenditure. It has nothing to do, in my opinion, with whether or not it affects my budget. The State of Maine collects money and the Legislature decides where to spend it. The Department of Health and Human Services needs to be held accountable for the monies given to it by the taxpayer.
Lead Maine’s proposed accountability rule would require in-person inspections of MaineCare providers before they enroll, and during audits or fraud investigations. This is a reasonable step to make sure providers are legitimate and taxpayer dollars are protected.
