The City and County of Honolulu announced that Ala Moana Regional Park is now fully reopened after extensive cleanup efforts in the wake of Hurricane Lowell.
It reopened as of 6:45 a.m. today, according to the Department of Parks and Recreation, earlier than anticipated.
“The quicker-than-anticipated reopening was made possible by the hustle and hard work of Ala Moana Regional Park staff, DPR’s specialized maintenance crews, and assistance from the Department of Facility Maintenance,” said DPR in a news release.
The park had been closed since Tuesday after the storm and high surf pushed large amounts of sand and debris across portions of the park. City crews brought in heavy equipment to clear the roads and pedestrian areas.
The DFM brought in a street sweeper to clear remaining sand and debris from park roadways on Wednesday, officials said, allowing the entire park to reopen.
