Humane Society waives adoption fees on Oahu to make room for Kauai animals

The Hawaiian Humane Society on Oahu is waiving adoption fees this weekend to help make room for animals in need from Kauai following Hurricane Lowell.

The adoption special, sponsored by VCA Animal Hospitals, begins today and lasts through Sunday. It will be available at both the Moiliili and Ho‘opili campuses and at select Petco locations.

HHS is sending a team to work alongside staff at the Kauai Humane Society on Saturday, and expects to bring some animals back from the Garden Isle.

The Kauai Humane Society staff is working around the clock to care for animals at their shelter while also cleaning up debris on generator power and coping with their own losses due to the hurricane.

Oahu’s shelters, meanwhile, are already over-capacity, with a high number of cats and kittens, Hawaiian Humane Society officials said. “Each adoption this weekend opens room for animals already in the organization’s care and for those arriving from Kauai,” they said in a news release.
