Heather Collins is a well-known radio personality and a prominent influencer. She says those personalities can’t coexist. So she has stepped away from Mix 94.1.
Collins’ final broadcast on the Audacy FM station was Friday. She had spent 16 years on the station, working middays before switching to afternoons, the slot in which she made Friday’s announcement.
A Las Vegas native and a Bonanza High grad, Collins said in text, “I’m still processing the fact that after 16 years, my time at Mix 94.1 has come to an end.”
Collins has managed the @RadioHeather IG account, with 32.7K followers, for her radio purposes. She is also a well-known Vegas influencer at @RaisedInVegas, with 269K followers.
“The last year was complicated, and there are parts of my departure that I’m not in a position to discuss right now,” Collins said. “Somewhere along the way, it became clear there was no world where RadioHeather and RaisedInVegas could live together anymore.”
Collins’ familiar red hair was the inspiration for her original on-air nickname, “Heather Red.” Her sense of humor is evident in her outgoing message, recorded by Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas and Kyle Cook after an interview about 12 years ago. Thomas announces, “Heather can’t make it to the phone right now …”
Collins started at Mix 94.1 as a part-time photographer.
“Somehow I worked almost every job in that building: Promotions, part-time on-air, nights, middays and afternoons,” she said. “Mornings were the one shift I never conquered.” She punctuated that sentence with a laughing-crying emoji. Mornings are not her thing.
More will be revealed in Collins’ future. For now, the Vegas broadcast favorite says, “I genuinely had the time of my life. I met some of my favorite bands, watched some of those relationships turn into real friendships, and hopefully helped a lot of listeners meet their favorite artists, too. There are experiences from those 16 years that I’ll carry with me forever, and I’m incredibly grateful to the listeners who grew up with me and allowed me to grow up on the radio with them.”
