A building in the Granary District caught fire Sunday evening, sending a plume of black smoke into the downtown Salt Lake City sky visible from Interstate 15.
The Salt Lake City Fire Department posted on X just after 8 p.m. Sunday, saying it was responding to a three-alarm fire at a commercial structure at 356 W. 700 South.
At least five fire trucks were spotted in the area, and crews were seen dumping water on the blaze. The fire department was asking people to steer clear of the area Sunday evening.
The fire department reported that some 80 firefighters were working the scene Sunday evening, plus EMS and police assistance.
The fire is located near The Hendrey, a recently completed luxury apartment building. According to Zillow, the building started renting apartments last September.
