Rainbow Wahine break 5-game skid by holding off Hilo

Jovi Lefotu finished with eight points and four rebounds in her first start of the season for the Hawaii women’s basketball team, which held off Hawaii Hilo 61-47 tonight.

A Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center crowd of 607 watched Hawaii snap a five-game losing streak and get back to .500 this season at 5-5.

The victory was Hawaii’s first since beating Portland to claim the Bank of Hawaii Classic tournament championship on Nov. 23.

All 15 rostered players got into the game for Hawaii, which started Lefotu and post Ritorya Tamilo for the first time this season.

Kyra Webb and Bailey Flavell led UH in scoring with nine points each and senior Imani Perez finished with eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in her first game coming off the bench this season.

Hawaii finished with 19 turnovers, snapping a run of four consecutive games with at least 20.

KeanuMarie Huihui, Mindy Kawaha and Kaile Cruz led the Vulcans (3-5) in scoring with 11 points each.

Hawaii has two more games before the end of the year, when it plays in the Maui Classic on the campus of Seabury Hall against Liberty on Dec. 19 and Montana State on Dec. 20.
