A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck off the Kona coast of Hawaii island this evening, less than two weeks after a magnitude 6.0 quake shook the same region.
Today’s earthquake struck at 5:59 p.m. and was centered about 54 miles south-southwest of Kailua-Kona at a depth of about 21 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake did not generate a tsunami, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu.
At about 9:46 p.m. on May 22, a 6.0 earthquake shook the western flank of Mauna Loa and was centered about 22 miles south-southeast of Kailua-Kona, at a depth of 14 miles, according to USGS.
