A’s owner John Fisher roots on Golden Knights’ Stanley Cup run

John Fisher called it “One of the greatest hockey games ever.” And the A’s owner saw it all, up close and personal.

Fisher had as good a seat as anyone in the building for the Golden Knights’ game-winning goal in Saturday’s Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final. As reported Saturday, Fisher was in the first row, just behind the Carolina Hurricanes’ goal, seated alongside Circa co-owner Derek Stevens and his wife, Nicole.

In that prime-time perch, Fisher was right on top of the action when Shea Theodore’s shot ricocheted off the boards and bounced off goalie Brandon Bussi’s skate and into the net, giving the Golden Knights a nerve-fraying 5-4 victory and 2-1 series lead.

Fisher is shown high-fiving fans in Circa’s social media post of the game winner.

“It was one of the greatest hockey games ever, with the Knights showing their character and perseverance,” Fisher texted, hours before the Athletics were to play the Brewers in the first of four games at Las Vegas Ballpark. “Derek and Nicole were great hosts, and I was on the edge of my seat the whole game. Go Knights Go!”

Fisher’s timing was also ideal for his first Golden Knights game, just ahead of the first A’s home stand as an official Las Vegas franchise. This is when, as the owner said, “The Las Vegas Athletics era begins!”

Stevens hosts Cup

Before the Stanley Cup was toted to the Hall of Excellence at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas on Monday, it was displayed at a hall of excellence at Circa. The resort’s social media page shows Stevens with a pair of unidentified gents, and the post “When the @NHL decides to throw a party, you never know who will show up!”

But up next, we do know …

Stew gets the nod

Athletics pitching great and a master of the menacing stare, Dave Stewart, and fellow former A’s star Jason Giambi, will meet fans during “The A’s Las Vegas Series Power Hour” at Circa’s Overhang Bar from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

This is a pregame celebration ahead of the Athletics’ games at Las Vegas Ballpark. Guests can also hang with Stomper, the A’s mascot, who needs to be instructed to stay off the Fremont Street Experience for fear of being mistaken for a busker.

For info, go to circalasvegas.com/as-power-hour. And remember, Circa is a 21-and-over resort. That goes for Stomper, too.

Get this …

Stabile Productions co-founders Matt and Angela Stabile and Tiffany Stasi have slipped a photo of Golden Knights coach John Tortorella into the shower scene of “X Country” at Harrah’s. The framed photo sits on a night table as a dancer performs to “Crazy” by Patsy Cline.

This honor is higher than being depicted on casino chips, but below room keys, on our list of tributes in VegasVille resorts.

In “X Burlesque,” the production company is using the same sound effects played as the Golden Knights are about to take the ice. The effects then fade into the show’s hip-hop number, featuring “Bad B—–s,” by Lil Jon, Kronic and Onderkoffer feat. Keno; “Tap In” by Saweetie; and “Mo Bounce” by Iggy Azalea.

Tease this …

Penn & Teller are to appear on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday night. We have one — wait, two — significant announcements coming. The duo performed a pair of shows in Toronto over the weekend on their ongoing 50th anniversary tour, now straying to their 51st anniversary. They are back at the Rio on Thursday.
