Voters in Berwick have elected incumbent Lisa Chase and newcomer Lisa Huestis to three-year terms on the town’s select board.
Results in the race were released Wednesday evening after a nearly daylong delay in the tallying of Berwick’s local and school results.
Huestis earned 698 votes, while Chase earned 680.
The three losing candidates were incumbent Jeffrey Brooks, who received 382 votes; Noah Cobb, who got 310 votes and had also unsuccessfully sought a seat last year; and Ryan Michaels, who finished with 254 votes.
Another 1,399 voters did not support any of the candidates and left that part of their ballots blank, while 21 wrote in other names. Voters were allowed to support a maximum of two candidates.
Outside the polls on Tuesday, Chase said she was confident in her chances and that she was more interested in the results of the school board race.
“It’s a great community, and (residents) support all the boards,” she said. “But right now, I think the school board has them pretty concerned.”
Huestis will begin her term at the start of the fiscal year, while Chase will finish her current term and continue into her new three-year cycle.
