Honolulu firefighters responded to two emergency calls in a row for hikers on Tuesday — one for hikers in distress in Manoa and one for a hiker with a medical emergency at Diamond Head.
The first 911 call came in at 1:24 p.m. for hikers in distress on the Waahila Trail in Manoa. Several different hiking parties had reported hearing shouts of “help” coming from different areas along the hiking trail. Eight units with 26 personnel responded.
HFD’s Air 1 helicopter arrived on scene at 1:55 p.m. and initiated a search from the air, while others searched by foot around the locations of each caller.
After multiple searches by land and air, with no confirmation of a hiker in need of assistance, HFD suspended the search at 4:51 p.m.
The second 911 call came in at 1:41 p.m. for a man in his 70s who was “experiencing medical complaints” on the Diamond Head Crater Trail. Five units with 16 personnel responded.
Firefighters climbed up on foot to conduct a medical assessment and provide basic life support for the man.

HFD airlifted him to a landing zone, where care was transferred to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services just before 2:30 p.m.
No injuries among HFD personnel were reported.
