Unexpectedly and unplanned, a Sphere show is now wed to a downtown Las Vegas wedding chapel.
Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel is offering wedding packages inspired by (but not formally in partnership with) “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
The ribald 1975 comedy-musical is being presented in Sphere Experiences in 2027. Reps announced those plans this week.
This was a lucky strike for the owners of the downtown wedding venue. Unrelated to Sphere’s plans, the Viva Las Vegas chapel at 1205 Las Vegas Blvd. South has announced its full cast wedding experience in its main chapel.
The project soft-launched in April and was on the tarmac for a formal unveiling this week when Sphere jumped in with its theatrical experience. In short, it means toast and toilet paper for all.
Dubbed “Glow Up,” the “Rocky” experience plays under a backdrop of giant lips, similar to the famed movie iconography. The Viva show features Dr. Frank-N-Furter, as portrayed by veteran Vegas stage performer and Elvis tribute artist Ron DeCar. Millie Loewinsohn plays Magenta, Kalin Ivanov plays Riff Raff, Jamie Richards is Brad, Gina Burgo plays Janet and Adam Barabas plays Rocky.
In the mini-production, Frank-N-Furter performs “Sweet Transvestite,” Janet sings “There’s a Light,” and the ensemble also takes on “The Time Warp.”
Limo service, the couples’ names on the chapel’s familiar marquee, a video of the ceremony and a unity candle are in the mix. The prize packages start at $1,150 and are included in Viva’s more than 150 themed packages.
The chapel’s operators know they have hit on a classic theme.
“Seeing ‘Rocky Horror’ enjoying a revival on stages in New York and now here in Las Vegas makes this moment even more exciting,” Viva Las Vegas President Melody Willis-Williams says. “We’ve always believed love should break the mold, and this backdrop is our kiss to the cult classic that’s been doing exactly that for decades.”
