Khaki cargo shorts, New Balance sneakers, stained 30-year-old T-shirt, beer in one hand and barbecue tongs in the other: That’s the image Florida fathers are overwhelmingly emitting, according to a new study that says the Sunshine State is one of the most classic-dad states in the nation.
The June 2026 study, put forth by BetMGM, sought out America’s dad capitals, or the states with the most “classic American dad culture.”
Florida’s “Dad culture” score fell in the 70 to 79.9 range, earning us the label of “high dad culture.”
The study found that Sunshine State sees some of the strongest shopping interest for dad fashion staples, which they assert includes cargo shorts, polo shirts, baseball caps and white sneakers. Florida dads are also taking their habits to the web in droves, the study finds, by frequently searching for stereotypical “dad interests” like the weather, bug spray and NFL game schedules.
The study also analyzed web search interest and online shopping behavior in categories like DIY projects, lawn care, grilling and dad jokes.
Wyoming took the No. 1 spot, but Southern states overall dominated the rankings with Texas, North and South Carolina, Oklahoma, Alabama and Georgia all placing in the “very high” dad culture tier.
