The state Health Department is alerting residents of a chicken nuggets and sausage patties recall due to the potential presence of plastic pieces.

MorningStar Farms of Chicago has recalled MorningStar Farms Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets and Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties, which were distributed nationally at retailers, including Safeway, Times Supermarket and Don Quijote in Hawaii.

The state’s Food and Drug Branch is working with local stores to ensure the recalled products are not longer available for sale.

The recalled products include:

>> Buffalo Chik’n Nuggets, 10.5 oz.; UPC Code 000 28989 10110 5; best by July 7 and 8, 2027.

>> Hot and Spicy Sausage Patties, 8.0 oz., UPC Code 000 28989 10094 8; best by July 5, 6, and 7, 2027.

To date, there have been no reported cases of injury or illness in Hawaii, the department said.

Hard or sharp foreign objects in food, however, may cause traumatic injury including laceration and perforation of tissues of the mouth, tongue, throat, stomach and intestine as well as damage to the teeth and gums.

“The FDB advises consumers to verify that they possess the recalled product and stop using it immediately,” said the Health Department in a news release. “Consumers who purchased the affected product should discard it and contact the company for a full refund.”

For more information, consumers may contact MorningStar Farms Consumer Affairs Monday through Friday by calling 800-962-0120 or texting 877-453-5837.
