It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gail Sandra Maynard on June 11, 2026, in Port Charlotte, Fla. Gail was born on February 21, 1950, in Burlington, Vt., and lived a life filled with love, friendship, kindness and devotion to family.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton Howard Porter and Vera Lou Raymond. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill Maynard; her son, Kelly “Buck” Maynard; her dear brother, Jack Porter; brothers David Porter and Dana Porter; and her sister, Mary Thompson. She leaves behind a family who cherished her deeply and countless friends whose lives were enriched by her warmth and generosity.
Throughout her career as a travel agent, Gail enjoyed helping others create memories and adventures. She had a lifelong love of reading and spent 35 wonderful years boating on the beautiful waters of Lake Champlain, creating treasured memories with family and friends.
After moving to Florida in 2016, Gail embraced life with the same enthusiasm and joy that defined her character. She loved gathering with friends for karaoke and could often be found singing her favorite song, “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” Her laughter, smile and love of music brought happiness to everyone around her.
More than anything, Gail loved people. She treasured her many friendships in both Vermont and Florida and never met a stranger. Her greatest joy came from caring for others. Whether preparing a home-cooked meal, offering comfort during difficult times or simply spending time with loved ones, Gail made everyone feel welcomed, valued and loved.
Gail’s legacy is one of kindness, compassion, friendship and unwavering devotion to family. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her and may the songs she sang, the meals she shared and the love she gave continue to live on in the hearts of family and friends.
A celebration of Gail’s life will be held on August 23, 2026, 1 p.m., at the Champlain Marina Quonset Hut, 982 W. Lakeshore Dr., Colchester, VT 05446.
“Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy.”
