As I write this, smoke from nearby wildfires hangs over Salt Lake City, turning our mountains hazy and leaving many of us coughing. I am one of them. Yet within days, Utah will once again encourage the sale and detonation of fireworks across one of the driest, most fire prone landscapes in the American West.
