Sharking warning signs posted at Makaha

Shark warning signs have been posted at Makaha after a sighting this afternoon.

Honolulu Ocean Safety lifeguards spotted a 6- to 8-foot tiger shark at Makaha about 150 yards from shore, eating a turtle, this afternoon.

City officials issued an HNL Alert at 2:14 p.m. today about the shark.

“If you see or encounter a shark notify Ocean Safety personnel or call 911 immediately,” said the alert. “Always check with a lifeguard for the latest ocean and beach conditions.”
