Leftfield Pittsburgh indie-rockers Feeble Little Horse released Bitknot this year, a surprise third album after an even more surprising hiatus. The album’s art and title are based on the coincident-current core memory matrix, used in older computers to store memory through ones and zeroes. “Each core, or ‘bit,’ is accessed through the grid of wires, like a knot that stores secret details and memories,” the band explained.
While retaining their signature lively, glitchy sound, this album packs a far heavier and noisier punch. The drums are quick, with unpredictable yet precise fills that complement the textures of the grungy guitar and hyper-pop textures. Even with this grittier distortion, the production is surprisingly crisp enough to be preferable for headphones immersion. Catch them at the Social on their Bitknot tour with digital slacker-rock band Computerwife to experience these mind-bending sounds live.
