Plantees is closing its doors on Mills Avenue this weekend.
The plant-based fast food restaurant, owned by hospitality group Team Market Group, is leaving Orlando and setting up in Arizona — and they’re calling it a move, according to their announcement on social media. This weekend will be eatery’s last days serving Mills dwellers.
Conveniently (for those hungry, environmentally conscious, and probably drunk), Plantees is located next to nightlife spots Will’s Pub and Lil Indie’s. It opened in the space in 2022.
The menu boasts fast-food-style vegan options from Impossible burgers to “chick’n” nuggets. The menu even features a spin on In-N-Out’s animal fries, fittingly named “plant-style fries.”
Plantees is one of the many Orlando-area venues owned by TMG. The group has at times been accused of targeting retail space that has long housed local businesses and replacing them with high-priced entertainment venues, restaurants and nightlife spots. The group continues to spark conversations about gentrification in Orlando.
Last year, someone blasted the facade of the unoccupied storefront that neighbors Plantees — a spot TMG was expected to take over — with graffiti reading “eat the rich.” It came as the area faced and continues to face a fast-changing business landscape and old-versus-new power imbalance.
Team Market Group also owns Alfie’s, June, The Wellborn, Nuri’s, The Robinson and Mathers. Former TMG-owned spot Taco Kat was sold to new owners earlier this year.
Orlando Business Journals reported in February that the team had listed for sale at least five of its downtown properties.
