Tony Award-winning musical Into the Woods comes to Steinmetz Hall this week, starring Jodi Benson — best known as the voice of Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid — as the Witch, alongside a cast of Orlando talent. Not only was Benson proclaimed a “Disney Legend” in 2011, her theater career — including roles in Welcome to the Club, Smile and a Tony nomination for her performance in 1992’s Crazy for You — is formidable.
Into the Woods, a deconstruction of the Grimm brothers’ fairy tales, is one of Stephen Sondheim’s most acclaimed works, and this production of it is the first professional show self-produced by the Dr. Phillips Center. Understandably, there’s a magical level of anticipation.
Various times July 1-Aug. 2, Steinmetz Hall at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, 445 S. Magnolia Ave., drphillipscenter.org, $77-$201.
