Police said at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, bystanders reported an unresponsive person floating in the water below the lighthouse north of Nawiliwili Harbor. The U.S. Coast Guard pulled the woman to shore, where the Kauai Fire Department then attempted lifesaving measures on her but was unable to revive her.

Police said the woman has been identified as Millie Mallon, 35, of Lihue.
An autopsy is pending to determine Mallon’s official cause of death and any contributing factors. Police said there is no evidence of foul play at this time.
