The Gray-New Gloucester/Raymond All-Stars staved off elimination in the Little League Baseball New England Region tournament by beating Portsmouth, 10-6, on Sunday in Bristol, Connecticut.
The Maine champion will play another elimination game on Wednesday against the loser of winner’s bracket matchup Monday between Vermont champion Camels Hump and Massachusetts champion Bridgewater.
Gray-New Gloucester/Raymond took advantage of six walks and a hit batter in the first inning to score eight runs.
Maz Rioux had three RBI and Elliott Szcezesniak had two. Wes Connick scored twice.
Connick pitched three innings to earn the win, allowing two runs on two hits, while striking out four and walking one.
New Hampshire champion Portsmouth scored six runs in the fourth inning, but Gray-New Gloucester/Raymond tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth.
