Flooding forces Hannibal Tavares Community Center shelter to close on Maui

Flooding has prompted the Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center shelter in Pukalani to close to Maui residents seeking shelter from the storm, according to a Maui County news release.

“Residents who need a safe place to go should proceed to the next nearest available shelter that can be safely reached,” according to a statement.

Other available shelters on Maui include:

>> Wailuku: Baldwin High School, 1650 Kaahumanu Ave.

>> Hana: Hana High and Elementary School Cafeteria, 4111 Hana Highway

>> Lahaina: Lahaina Civic Center Gym, 1840 Honoapiilani Highway

>> Kihei: South Maui Community Park and Gym, 1501 Liloa Drive

The following shelters are available on an as-needed basis on Lanai and Molokai:

>> The Lanai Youth Center, 101-165 Fifth St. Lanai City

>> Molokai Baptist Church

>> Kilohana Recreation Center, 344 Kamehameha V Highway, Kaunakakai
