Marco Vargas hit a two-run single in the top of the eighth inning to give the Binghamton Rumble Ponies an 8-6 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in an Eastern League game on Sunday at Hadlock Field in Portland.
Portland tied the game on a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh by Jack Winnay.
Vargas hit a solo home run in the first inning to give Binghamton a 1-0 lead. The Rumble Ponies made it 2-0 on a sac fly by Corey Collins in the second, but the Sea Dogs tied it in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Will Turner and an RBI groundout by Nate Baez.
Binghamton went back up 3-2 in the third on an RBI single by Jacob Reimer, but Portland took the lead on a two-run single by Henry Godbout later in the inning. The Rumble Ponies took the lead back in the fourth on a sac fly by D’Andre Smith, an RBI double by Mitch Voit and an RBI single by Vargas.
Portland got within one when a run scored on a double play grounder by Brooks Brannon.
Vargas went 4 for 5 with four RBI and two runs scored. Chris Suero added three hits and scored three times.
