Teen seriously hurt after crashing e-motorcycle in Kalihi

A 14-year boy was seriously injured after crashing the e-motorcycle he was riding in Kalihi Friday night, police said.

At about 10:22 p.m., the teen was riding the e-motorcycle south on Ahonui Street when he veered into the northbound lane and hit a moped rider, according to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.

The boy, who was ejected onto the road, was treated by Emergency Medical Services personnel and taken to a hospital in serious condition. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to HPD.

The unidentified moped operator left the scene without rendering aid or providing information, police said.

HPD said while speed appears to contributed to the collision, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors and that the investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call HPD’s Traffic Division, at (808) 723-3413.
