Superstar headliner drops Sphere show, night-of

Carín Leon has achieved his second “first” at Sphere. The first Latin headliner at the venue is now the first to call out of a show the night of the performance.

Leon postponed his show set for Thursday “due to an expected transportation issue,” as posted on Sphere’s social channels. The announcement was posted at 9 p.m. The listed show time was 8 p.m. León took the stage at 8:30 p.m. in his opener.

Leon posted a written explanation in his Instagram stories feed (as translated from Spanish): “My people, due to an unexpected setback during my transfer, and always putting everyone’s safety first, unfortunately we have to reschedule tonight’s show at Sphere. I know all the effort … and the desire that many brought to be here tonight, and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.”

Later, in a reels video on his IG feed, Leon said he had issues with two private jets. The superstar shared that the first plane was scheduled to depart around 2 or 3 p.m., but had faulty brakes. A second plane arrived to him around 4:30-5 p.m., but the craft showed navigation concerns.

Leon did not specify his location, but he reportedly still lives in his native Hermosillo, the capital of the border state of Sonora, Mexico.

Sphere officials, Leon’s representatives and series promoter AEG Presents have not responded to requests for further details.

Thursday’s postponed show has been moved to Sept. 15, 2027. Earlier Thursday, the 37-year-old superstar announced new dates Sept. 16, 17 and 18, 2027. All of the dates coincide with Mexican Independence Day weekend.

Until Leon’s postponement, Kenny Chesney is the only headliner to drop a show at Sphere. In April, the country icon canceled his July 3-4 dates for unspecified reasons, amid widespread and unconfirmed speculation he attended the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce wedding.
