A 13-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car Saturday night in Portland.
Police responded to the scene near 512 Warren Avenue shortly before 9 p.m. after receiving reports of a crash involving one vehicle and three pedestrians, according to a news release.
Officials’ initial investigation determined that a group of teens were walking on the north side of Warren Avenue when they abruptly entered the street. They were hit by a vehicle being driven by a 48-year-old Portland man traveling in the same direction.
The 13-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other boys — a 14-year-old and 15-year-old — were transported to Maine Medical Center where they were treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries. Others in the group were uninjured, according to the release.
The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene for the initial investigation, but was then transported to Maine Medical Center to be evaluated for minor injuries.
Portland Police were assisted by several other departments, including the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office and the Portland Public Schools Superintendent’s Office. Officials are still investigating the crash, and no charges have been field against the driver.
This is the third pedestrian fatality in Portland this year after a woman was killed in late August on Forest Avenue, and a man was killed in June on Marginal Way.
