Kauai Island Utility Cooperative employees work to restore power in Ahukini on the southeastern coast of Kauai.
The Kauai Island Utility Cooperative said after restoring power to another 300 customers today, it has now brought energy back to about 83% of its members, according to a news release.
Approximately 6,488 members remain without power, including pockets of communities between Moloaa and Waimea. Additionally, Kokee remains without power, with no restoration timeline available for the area yet.
Four troubleshooters — two on the east side, and two on the west side — are working to restore smaller outages. However, new calls continue coming in.
KIUC said 13 of 16 transmission lines are back up.
On the North Shore, KIUC line crews are working alongside HECO personnel to continue repairs to damaged lines, poles and electrical equipment in order to prepare for initial restorations.
Some of those restoration efforts, including to portions of Princeville and Hanalei, could happen this evening or Wednesday, barring unforeseen circumstances.

The last phase of restorations will be for Wainiha and Haena due to the extent of damage to transmission infrastructure feeding those communities. KIUC said it does not expect restoration for those areas until late next week, at the earliest.
Meanwhile, KIUC is asking motorists to slow down and remain alert when driving near crews working along the side of the road during the day and at night. Motorists should also expect extended delays.
The public should also stay away from downed utility lines and call 911 if a line poses an immediate danger.
