Spiegelworld’s $40 million Atlantic City show to close

“The Hook,” Spiegelworld’s adventurous, port-themed variety show at Caesars Atlantic City, is closing.

Company founder Ross Mollison e-mailed the show’s cast after Sunday’s performance at Warner Theatre that the show was finished. The final performance is Sept. 6.

Spiegelworld closed its “DiscoShow”dance production at Linq Hotel on Jan. 3, having opened in September 2024. The company continues to run “Absinthe” at Caesars Palace, an unqualified hit for 15 years; “Atomic Saloon Show” at Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian; Superfrico and “The Party” at Cosmopolitan; and Diner Ross Steakhouse, Glitterloft and 99 Prince and Club Honey (in the old “DiscoShow” space) at Linq Hotel.

From Mollison’s announcement: “Creating an original, resident show at Caesars Atlantic City was an ambitious undertaking. The show has constantly evolved over the years, showcasing so many incredible artists. It is a significant achievement that we will have played for an unprecedented four seasons on the Boardwalk.”

He added, “I cannot tell you how proud I am of ‘The Hook’ in Atlantic City. We put everything we had during Covid to get this off the ground, and the venue and show are gorgeous.”

The show played four summers in A.C., logging more than 1,000 performances.

The company also said, “Caesars Entertainment is of course an incredibly supportive partner, and their decision was not made lightly.”

“The Hook” opened for previews in June 2023. The $40 million project included an extensive remodel of Warner Theatre, which opened in 1929.

Spiegelworld also opened Superfrico restaurant, an outpost of its Cosmopolitan location. Caesars Entertainment took over operations of the restaurant more than a year ago.

“The Hook” was billed as the entertainment flagship of Caesars Entertainment’s $430 million investment in its Atlantic City resorts. The adult variety show was similar in tenor to “Absinthe” and “Atomic Saloon Show” in Las Vegas. show featured a huge hull and giant hook as its central set pieces.

Despite its ambitious concept, architecture and location on the famed Boardwalk, the vintage entrance facing tourists walking past it, “The Hook” would have a challenge selling seasonal tickets. Winters are said to be rough on all tourism in the region. “The Hook,” a uniquely bold undertaking, could not survive that and other realities of doing business in A.C.
