Nearly two years later, the man tried for the Halloween mass shooting in downtown Orlando in 2024 has been found guilty of first-degree murder.
Jaylen Edgar, who was 17 years old at the time of the shooting, killed two and injured several others on Halloween in 2024. He was found guilty of all charges Monday.
Edgar opened fire into an outdoor crowd of anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 people celebrating Halloween on Orange Avenue, Orlando Police Department has said. He shot a total of nine people, including two, Tyrek Hill and Tim Schmidt Jr., fatally. Another person was injured after being trampled by the crowd.
Victims were aged from 19 to 39.
It was announced shortly after the shooting in 2024 that the teenager was to be tried as an adult.
Edgar was charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm and seven counts of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm. He has attempted to plead insanity in recent months, but evaluations by two psychologists did not support his claim.
He chose not to testify or try to convince the jury of his insanity. He is scheduled for sentencing Oct. 20 and faces a lifelong prison sentence.
