A Newton man died in a head-on crash in Tamworth, New Hampshire on Monday.
Around 5 p.m., New Hampshire State Police responded to a report of a crash north of Maple Road in Tamworth on Route 16, the agency said in a press release.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a driver from Albany, New Hampshire was traveling northbound in a 2023 Subaru Forester when she veered into the southbound lane and collided with a 2017 Nissan Rogue, according to State Police. The reason why she crossed into the southbound lane is still under investigation, the agency said.
The passenger in the Nissan, Juan Gabarro, 46, of Newton, Massachusetts, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Neither driver was hurt, but both were evaluated as a precaution.
Part of Route 16 was closed for five hours following the crash, police said.
