Shark warning signs have been posted.
Honolulu lifeguards posted shark warning signs at Ala Moana Beach Park this afternoon after a surfer reported an encounter with one.
At about 1:30 p.m., a woman said she was lying on her surfboard at the “Concessions” surf spot when a shark bumped her off her board.
She immediately paddled back toward shore to report the encounter to lifeguards. Ocean Safety has photos of the bite marks left on the surfboard.
An HNL alert issued at about 2 p.m. today reported the sighting of an aggressive, 10-foot tiger shark.
“HOSD urges all ocean users to exercise caution and remain alert when entering the water,” said Ocean Safety in a news release. “Anyone who observes a shark is encouraged to calmly exit the water and notify a lifeguard or emergency personnel. Beachgoers should always follow posted warnings and directions from Ocean Safety personnel.”
