Sea Dogs begin second half of season with loss to Hartford

The Portland Sea Dogs erased a three-run deficit but then gave up three runs in the seventh inning as the Hartford Yard Goats opened the second half of the Eastern League season with a 7-5 win Tuesday night in Hartford, Connecticut.

The Sea Dogs scored in the fourth inning on an error, tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth on an RBI single by Miguel Bleis and a sacrifice fly by Marvin Alcantara, then took the lead in the seventh when a run scored on a double-play grounder by Alcantara with the bases loaded.

Hartford, the first-half champion in the Northeast Division, answered in the bottom of the seventh. After Dyan Jorge singled home the tying run, Jorge and GJ Hill executed a double steal, with Hill scoring from third. Another run scored on a fielder’s choice grounder.

Caleb Bowden took the loss in relief of Dalton Rogers, who pitched the first five innings.

Sea Dogs shortstop Franklin Arias had three hits, including an RBI single in the second inning. Johanfran Garcia was 2 for 5 with a double and two runs scored.
